How do I access my M: drive from home with my Windows PC?
Students can now connect to their M: Drive (also known as their personal share or NetShare) from home through Internet Explorer 5 (or later) on the Windows XP, 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 95, or Windows 98 operating systems. Once connected, students can manipulate files and save to that directory.
It is important to note that once a student is connected to their M: Drive, all files that need to be modified should be copied from the M: Drive to the local computer for editing and then copied back to the M: Drive once all modifications have been made. (If the network connection is broken while a student is working on a file that was opened directly from the M: Drive, changes may be lost.)
To connect:
- Open Internet Explorer (it is assumed that you are already connected to the Internet through your Internet Service Provider).
- Choose Open from the File menu.
- In the dialogue box, enter: https://www.students.ccsu.edu/myfiles/(your username here) (replace “(your username here)” with your BlueNet ID/computer account username). PLEASE NOTE that you MUST type your username in all lowercase letters.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: You must type https in front of the address, not the normal http. Note the ‘s’ after http.
- Click in the check box in front of "Open as Web Folder" and click OK.
- The next screen will ask you to authenticate with the server by providing your BlueNet ID/computer account username and password.
- Enter your BlueNet ID/computer account username. You MUST type your username in all lowercase letters.
- Enter your BlueNet ID/computer account password
- Click OK to access the M: Drive.
After gaining access, you may add the M: Drive connection to your Favorites just as you would any other website by clicking Favorites from the pull-down menus, and then clicking “Add to Favorites”.
