ESPAÑOL 4: Grading Policy and Expectations SEÑORA PANTALONE |

¡Bienvenidos al Español IV! Throughout this course students will refine their communication abilities as and skills learned in previous courses. Español IV focuses on the history and culture of Latin America and the status of Hispanics in the U.S. Students will read excerpts from current Hispanic authors and develop their conversational skills, as the course is conducted almost exclusively in Spanish. |

OBLIGATIONS (you must have): * A Spanish 4 three ring binder in class everyday (at least 3 inches dedicated to Spanish) * A writing utensil in class everyday * Any homework that was assigned * Your textbook covered at all times following its issue ** A Spanish/English dictionary will be necessary for many assignments. ** |

* Only pen may be used on tests and quizzes. * Each of you will have a personal folder. You will keep all tests and quizzes in it and it will NEVER leave the class. * Projects may be turned in one day late for a 10 point deduction. No project will be accepted beyond one day late. |

Homework: Your homework grade is based on completeness and effort. All homework is due at the beginning of class. I will check and/or collect it. With few extraordinary exceptions, I will not accept late homework. |

|
Participation: 1. Spoken participation - All students are expected to speak Spanish in class on a daily basis. Spoken participation points are logged on most days for students speaking Spanish in the following situations: |

Answering a question accurately if called on Volunteering and accurately answering a question Asking a lesson related question Conversing with the teacher beyond everyday greetings at an appropriate time |

2. In-class Participation – All students are expected to participate fully in class. Occasionally, activities will be graded in which the completeness of the written assignments and the level of involvement of each student in classroom activities will be assessed and counted towards his/her grade (i.e. Cajitas / educational games). |

Make-up Policy: You are responsible to find out what you missed outside of class time and make up your work. You will have 2 homework buddies with whom you will exchange phone numbers / email with two classmates and use as resources. I will also post homework on the World Language webpage. If you have access to the internet you can usually find your homework assignments at http://www.ledyard.net/wlc/homework.asp .You may also find me before or after school. |

TARDINESS: You are allowed two (2) unexcused tardies to class per semester. Your body needs to be in the room BEFORE the bell rings. Upon your third tardy, you must plan to stay after school that day with me (or choose a school detention on the assigned date). Plan to stay for a school detention every tardy following your third. |

|
3 STRIKES YOU’RE OUT: Everyone is allowed to make mistakes. However we need to control ourselves. If you use inappropriate language, treat anyone with disrespect or rudeness or demonstrate inappropriate behavior, you will receive a strike. If you accumulate three you will serve a detention with me OR receive other disciplinary action. |

EXTRA HELP: I am available for extra help after school Tuesdays, some Fridays, and during activity period all by appointment only. You must take the initiative to make an appointment with me, and you must earn this privilege through responsible behavior. The last two weeks before exams I will be available only to students who have taken this initiative earlier in the semester and who have pushed themselves to do better than his/her minimum ability. |

EXTRA CREDIT: Extra credit is available on various assessments. Extra credit will not be available at the end of the semester. Your grade reflects your effort, achievements, and initiative to take advantage of opportunities offered to you over the entire semester. |

|
FOOD, DRINK, CANDY AND GUM: Only water may be consumed inside of the classroom. |
||||
|
FIRE DRILLS: During fire drills we will exit through the back left stair well through the back of the building. As most of you already know, you must go all of the way down the hill. Our Spanish class will meet by the chain link fence. You must check-in and remain with the class throughout the drill. Failure to do so will result in a detention. |

|
Language of work: Unless otherwise specified you will answer all work in Spanish in complete sentences. |
